Something new i can't wait to try!

Not mini related this one!

For a while I've been visiting the same shop at etsy in awe of the ladies work. Here is a link to my fave shop there: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jannio
It seems like forever I've been trying to work out how felt is made with the beautiful images found on the bags and scarves at this wonderful shop and other sites ive been having a nose around.
Yesterday Debie from Piskies and Poppets phoned me and so i asked her to visit the site to see if she knew, which of course she did (I knew she would).
Here's some of the bags i love in the shop.

I love the texture and look of them and have wanted for a long time to be able to make my own bags, jewellery, scarves, table covers etc using the same technique, not really knowing what it was called or how. Again Debie ran me through it all and told me what i needed, advised on books etc. But I'm impatient and for the life of me couldn't wait for a book to arrive, so went to you tube to see if there was anything there.
Lord, was there loads, and 6 hours later at 2 in the morning i was like a child on Christmas Eve full of excitement and slightly annoyed i had no suitable materials.
So I've been to ebay and think Ive bought enough of the right kind of wools/tops, fibres etc, oh yes and olive oil soap.
Tomorrow morning think I'll be waiting on the doorstep for the post lady, lol.
I think i have ordered enough of everything, although really not sure, so will wait and see. I think once you have the basics and get going it's one of the less expensive crafts and think its going to fast become my fave hobby ever!

Heres some great tutorials if you want to have a nose yourself and fancy having a go too.

This is one ladies work through several stages, but there are loads more over there. Just type in wet felting or nuno scarf making, which is similar but with silks as the first layer. Im in love with them and so cant wait to have a go too. Will make beautiful presents!

Then look for step 3, 4 and so on.

Plus check out this cute little girl who has a whole series of tutorials and felt making. She's so sweet and clever! She loves hats and can make them too... amazing is all i can say! Look for more under Oiliart.

  2. You're really going for it :) If you google "huovutus" you'll find tons of pics of Finnish felting, there's a bit different stuff as most of it is kind of traditional Finnish motifs etc. One thing I found also interesting that you can felt on silk also :) And with the needel felting technique you can add smaller motifs to a knitted wool :)

I don't know if you're into knitting, but there's also knitting yarn that's meant for felting, first knit an oversized item and then you wash it in the washmachine.

Happy felting, can't wait to see the results :)

  5. Felting is great, Nikki, you will love it. If you look in my 'Favourites' tab on my Etsy site you will find more links for fab felters shops. I love the felt necklaces and flowers. You can also buy ready felted flower kits and felting supplies from Hobbeycraft. Have loads of fun, I know you'll create wonderful felted pieces :0)

  6. I had the same craving with felt stuff a couple of years ago when I saw some at a craft fair and had a long chat with the lady about it. Was just to busy at the time and have been since to take on another hobby. The textures and colours make it intriguing to me. Looking forward to seeing how you get on Nikki. Jain xxx
