Burning clay! Etsy and Thank you too.

Im meant to be listing a few items on etsy this evening like promised, but unable to now.
I'd popped the last few little minis in the oven for a long final bake, plus some half sculpted minis, and then left them to cool in there once the oven was turned off. Such a stupid thin to do that, leaving them to cool! My son came along while i was upstairs sorting out my mount everest washing piles (not really achieving much with those piles) and turned the oven on too cook a pizza. Could have screamed at him, but really he wasnt to know they were in there cooling.
So im going to treat myself to a mini oven just for clay to prevent any more burning.

Thank you to everyone that purchased minis from me last night. Took me ages to list everyhting because my pictures were struggling to upload, so thank you for your patience. Plus had the biggest headache ever and was so struggling to actually see the screen. Much better now after a mega sleep.

  1. Ohhhh Nikki! Doesn't it just break your heart when you see you creations burnt.... But I did have to laugh a little! I have burnt a many of items, but my favorite was probally my Dughter's science project! She had to make a cell, and we burnt the crud out of it! It was completely black!! It was sooooo funny, she even took it too school to show her teacher. I'm sure your son feels terrible, but hopefully one day you both will be able to laugh about it!!

OK! I'm loving the stuff you put on Etsy! Don't think I had gotten the chance to tell you that yet:)

Glad your headache is gone:) Sleep is the best medicince:)

  2. Poor kid..I am sure he felt bad about that. And it is really a good thing that you get a separate oven anyway. I've always read that it isn't a good idea to use your regular food-cooking oven for polymer clay baking. I got a used mini oven at the Thrift Store for around $10 for clay use. I use an oven thermometer to check the temperature since I didn't trust the dial to be accurate, it has a timer with a loud DING and I've never burned anything...yet.

I was away so I missed everything again...as usual. Make some more candles with faces. :-)

  3. Be sure to give us a review on the oven you got Nikki. I need a new one, mine has had it , takes forever to reach temperature and Ive seen couple in Argos as I dont like using the top oven for fimo either just incase.
Congrats on super quick sales, as always you could have sold everything 3 times over. I adored the face candles too, my fingers was super quick on the button for them but they sold in about 4 seconds. SO my question is who is that person with the quickest finger in the West!!! lol Kate xxx

  4. I did the same this week, i made some pumpkins and accidently left them in the oven too long and burnt them. They came out black and blistered. The smell was terrible we had to sit in the garden because both me and the dog felt sick ha ha ha! I listed your sale on my blog but then missed all the excitement ha ha ha! What am I like? Glad you sold well as always but that is no surprise as everyone loves your creations!

  5. I bought a little oven in July from Argos it was reduced and it only cost me £21.00!!! It's big enough for my mini bits. :o))

I will reply to your email later, but I hope that horrid headache goes. :o)

Aww poor burnt mini's, but I bet your son felt bad. Yes, getting your own oven for clay cooking should solve the problem! :o))

  6. Una lástima tanto trabajo tirado. Cuando tengas tu horno sólo para tí ya no pasará más.
Me alegro que tu dolor de cabeza se haya ido.
    Besos Clara.

  9. Clara, will be lovely to have an oven just for clay. My kitchen oven is so big and a small one will be much better.
My friend is having some of the ok burnt items for her haunted house, so at least some have not gone to waste.

  11. Kat, those fumes are horrid when that happens.
I once put dried spices to toast a little and had to escape the house for hours. We were all choking with red eyes, lol. Not sure which spice created this so now dont toast them.
Hope you salvaged some of your pumpkins!

  14. Oh Katie, thats sad for your daughter. My middle son patrick spent hours making mini pigs, pots and face sculptures, and they too burned, but only a little, so he painted them.
Hope your daughter wasnt too upset!
Got to laugh though and keep positive!
